FICINO SCHOOL |
|
Ficino School is a non-denominational independent school located at 27 Esplanade Rd in the heart of Mt Eden. Ficino provides a superior quality of education to boys and girls through the primary and intermediate years. Ficino School is named after Marsilio Ficino who is a fifteenth century philosopher, priest, writer and Florentine Renaissance thinker credited with bringing the various works of Plato and Socrates back into vogue among scholars, artists, religious, cultural and political leaders of the time. The ethos of Ficino School is "Rejoice in the Present" a quote directly from the works of Marsilio Ficino. It is an invocation to the children, teachers and the community to be fully, confidently and happily here in the present moment, as it is only now in the present moment that we can truly explore and express our full creativity, inner qualities and human potential. "Human Potential" sits right at the core of the Ficino School method of teaching which teaches the classics, arts, philosophy, language and mythology alongside a more traditional NZ school curriculum. Rob Bree is a member of the Ficino School Board of Trustees and provides considerable voluntary assistance in terms of marketing, commercial strategy and strategic planning. His involvement with the school is the result of his own interest in Philosophy and the desire to see young people have access to the many and varied great wisdoms of the ages. Ficino School fosters a love for inquiry and a love of wisdom in children which is something Rob feels is greatly needed in modern New Zealand where much that is good about our history is fast being swept away by a wave of political correctness and populist reductionism. "I desire that the younger generation have open access to all that is good and much of which went towards the creation of NZ as an equal and fair society based on the principles of love, tolerance and human endeavour. I see Ficino School as one of a few institutions which have dedicated themselves to making that happen. I encourage people who want the best for the younger members of their family to take a look".
